Largest solar installation on Kāpiti Coast goes live

Local company Green Van Solar is installing the largest residential solar system in the Kāpiti and Horowhenua regions with a 72-panel roof installation at Waikanae.

Since opening in Kāpiti in 2015 Green Van Solar has become the region’s leading installer of sustainable energy solutions for the domestic market.

“We carry out all types of electrical work, but our passion is solar energy and reducing impact on the environment,” says owner Iain McIsaac.

“Achieving a large installation like this is something to celebrate, it shows how far solar technology has developed,” says Iain.

With major advances in technology and the larger banks now offering interest free loans for home installation, solar systems are becoming more affordable for families and businesses.

The large Waikanae solar installation is on a residential property with underfloor heating, an indoor swimming pool, and power bills of over $1500 a month.  The solar energy being harnessed will drastically reduce the homeowner’s power bills, dependence on the national grid, and impact on the environment, all while charging their electric vehicle.

The system has battery storage for night-time use and is easily scalable to add more batteries.  It has built in back-up services that support communications, security, Wi-Fi, lighting, and other power outlets throughout the house. In the case of power cuts these systems will continue to operate.

All this is presented in an attractive cabinet so there are no messy cables showing or hanging free for little fingers to touch. The client has access to all generation and consumption data 24 hours a day via a smartphone app or PC.

While this is a very large system, Green Van Solar caters for all budgets, roof types and needs. Iain says most customers are seeking to reduce electricity consumption or make a significant dent in their power bills and Green Van Solar shares their passion for reducing their carbon footprint.
